This Is Not a Government or Law Enforcement Office. We run a private reference site. We cannot confirm whether a warrant exists, recall or clear one, post bond, arrange a surrender, or give legal advice. For any of those, contact the issuing court or the Sheriff's Office directly.
Need Official Warrant Information?
Here is where the requests most people have about Chippewa County warrant records should go. Each item names the office that owns that part of the record, because no single office answers all of them.
- Whether an order is open: the 91st District Court at 906-635-6320 handles misdemeanor, ordinance, traffic, and early felony files. For a name and date-of-birth search over a set period, the clerk research line is 906-635-7613.
- A bench warrant for a missed date: start with the court that set the case. District Court files stay with the 91st District Court, and a felony that was bound over moves to the 50th Circuit Court at 906-635-6338.
- Resolving or clearing an order: speak with a licensed Michigan attorney and the issuing court about a voluntary appearance, a new date, a recall, or a bond. No county office will recall an order on the strength of a phone call alone.
- Service and law-enforcement confirmation: the Sheriff's Office at 325 Court Street answers service questions at 906-635-6355 on weekdays from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.
- Custody and bail after an arrest: the Chippewa County Correctional Facility booking office is staffed around the clock at 906-635-7620. Bond is accepted in cash or through a licensed bail bondsman, and checks and foreign currency are not accepted.
Circuit Court file copies come from the County Clerk at 319 Court Street, 906-635-6300. Regular copies run $1.00 per page, and a certified copy costs $10.00 for the first page plus $1.00 for each additional page. The clerk needs enough information to locate the file, so bring or send the case number and the names on the record.
Two other offices handle narrower questions. The Friend of the Court at 325 Court Street, Suite 104, 906-635-6347, routes support and custody matters, and any warrant tied to one is still controlled by the issuing court. The Public Defender at 325 Court Street, Suite 201, 906-635-6860, represents adult criminal defendants who qualify for appointed counsel, and a public defender is present at arraignment in District Court.
If you need an existing law-enforcement record that no public channel shows, the county's Freedom of Information Act route runs through the FOIA coordinator in the County Administrator's Office at 319 Court Street. Requests may be emailed to foia@chippewacountymi.gov or faxed to 906-635-6325. A request has to describe an existing document well enough to find, and the county must respond within five business days, with one ten-business-day extension allowed.
One reminder about this site. We do not take messages about individual cases and we cannot forward a question to a court on your behalf. When a matter involves a live warrant, call the office directly and write down the name of the person you spoke with, the date, and the instructions you were given. That note is worth more than any summary you find online, including ours.
